Thanks for your contributions. I have a couple of (hopefully constructive) comments to make

a) the cloud has been overused. Case in point, jolicloud (not to mention gOS cloud)
Image

b) it seems like a very 'easy' approach to logo making, it is too literal-minded. "shortest path to the cloud" - "Oh, a cloud!"

Now if you could add a flux capacitor on the cloud...that changes things

P.S. Even though xpud might be a fast way to the cloud,if you consider all the opt packages in and under development I'd wager to say it's a bit more than that.

P.S.1, We could have a long-winded discussion on whether differentiation is the way to go or not. I think not! But I seem to be the minority..

I know that the cloud is too literal and its overused, but,
well then we will have to ask them why they used a cloud as a logo on their cloud OS.
In this case, this cloud is intentionally honest and elemental (basic), i wanted it to say what it is, whitout recourring to extra resources that could confuse the user or even make the logo unclear (whats now happening).

In the case of jolicloud is redundant couse the name already says "cloud", and their cloud are a little abstract and they are three.
In this xpud logo, there is only one cloud (becouse less is more, and thats enough), and it is tiny, light, compact and frendly, just as xpud says to be. (Easy and Fast: Power on, get online, start surfing or playing music and movie, within seconds.)

In the actual logo, you have to read a description or something to get to know what is xpud about, it does not make the user to catch the essence faster, and same with a pet or something similar.

About what xpud really is (imho), is a cloud os, and the shortets path to it becouse its is ment to boot fast and start running the web browser instantly, and thats great for a netbook. But what makes it better is that on xpud you can get more apps (and run your favorite native applications)

I uploaded other ideas :D
THanks for your comment

Not so exciting. Just my first try. I wasn't able to make OpenOffice Draw export a decent .svg.
That's why I posted this .gif.

What are the requirements to become a designer?
I recently made some ubuntu icons (mostly folder icons), but unfortunately, they are in PNG format.

Here are they:

The lightning is meant to symbolize the speed of xPud. ;)

I'm glad the logos don't have a huge Tomynho copyright like the ubuntu ones :D

I prefer the top one, as the white cloud / white border really make sense (compared to the gradients or the white cloud/black border).
BUT! I've seen this cloud before, it's possibly on openclipart.org (nothing wrong with that) so it wouldn't hurt if you tried making it a bit more
'cloudy' i.e add a few more bumps to it (circles? is that what you're using?) , slightly more 'realistic' in other words (without resorting to gradients , it's gonna be hard).

The comment I made on hernantz's work still applies here, so allow me to quote myself :
[I]t seems like a very 'easy' approach to logo making, it is too literal-minded. "shortest path to the cloud" - "Oh, a cloud!"

How about emphasizing speed instead of cloudiness? I'm just thinking aloud here. What could symbolise speed in an easily recognisable way. An accelerometer?

P.S Whenever I see lightning like that I'm reminded of the electricity company or the SS
